New European Energy Union revealed

The European Commission (EC) on 25 February officially released the program of the European energy union, presented by the Slovak Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, who is also the Vice-President of the EC in charge of Energy Union. However, on Monday the environmental organization Greenpeace expressed concerns that the objectives of the energy union will not be at the expense of the climate challenges Europe is facing at the moment. In response, Maroš Šefčovič stated that the environmentalists shouldn't fear the energy union. "We have approached the concept of an energy union in five dimensions, three of which are closely linked to climate targets," said Šefčovič. These dimensions should be the decarbonisation of the European economy, the increase of energy efficiency and the further support for science and research focused on the application of technologies useful for combating climate change.
