Gold medal for Slovakia’s K4 team

Gold medal for Slovakia’s K4 team

On Sunday Denis Myšák, Erik Vlček, Juraj Tarr and Tibor Linka and their kayak crossed the finish line first in the final of the 1,000m race at the World Championships in Milan. The experienced Erik Vlček, was happy to hang again a gold medal in this discipline around his neck after 12 years.

"I did not expect to take such an advantage right from the beginning of the race and that to stay ahead until the finish. Three hundred meters before the finish I have already known that gold will not miss us, " said Vlček, who is now looking forward to next year's Olympics in Rio.

Teammate Tibor Linka who is at his first gold medal at such a competition was even happier: "We came together as a team only at the beginning of the season and we did not know that we could click so well. I hope that we will last until the Olympics in Rio. We had not even take a look at other crews until the last 200 m when I spotted the tip of the Hungarian boat and we accelerated a bit."

Hungary came second with the Czech boat on the third place. In the women's 200m race the Slovak duo Ivana Kmeťová and Martina Kohlová finished on the fifth place.
