The ancient Mayan culture, which belongs to the Mesoamerican civilisations, has quite a strong connection with Slovakia. Sounds unbelievable? It's not: there is a Slovak research team which has been studying Mesoamerican civilisations for more than a decade now. Before Prof. Milan Kováč, leader of the researchers, left Slovakia for Guatemala, Zuzana Botiková spoke to him about this unique research and its outcomes.
