Slovakia Sues EU This Week

Slovakia will file a suit at the Court of Justice of the EU regarding mandatory quotas to resettle migrants this week. Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that he had already informed his Visegrad 4 partners about this intention. "I'm closely watching the statements of the new Polish government as well as the Hungarian cabinet that they are ready to discuss these issues", said Robert Fico. However, the Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka has already stated that the Czech government does not join the complaint as it would weaken its position in the EU. The prime ministers of the Visegrad Group will meet on Thursday, December 3 in Prague. Ahead of this meeting, the initiative to file the complaint this week will be discussed by the Slovak Parliament on Wednesday. The lawsuit should be filed by December 18.
