Slovakia’s new government manifesto approved by parliament

The Slovak Parliament has approved the manifesto of the new government. Seventy-nine of the 142 lawmakers present voted to express their confidence in the new Cabinet of Robert Fico on Tuesday evening. Sixty-one deputies voted against the ruling coalition of SMER-SD, SNS, MOST-HID, and #SIET and two MPs abstained from voting. President Andrej Kiska supported the new Cabinet and its program in his speech addressing the lawmakers but he warned against failures. Resolving the situation in health care and education are the priorities, stated the president. President Kiska also pointed out that citizens' trust in the state must be restored. As for issues ahead, the president sees the greatest dangers being in rising extremism in Slovak society.
