No migrants please

On Thursday the European Commission proposed that Slovakia could accept the resettlement of 785 migrants from Syria and Africa currently situated in Greece and Italy. If approved by the Council of the EU in June the procedure should take two years to complete. Slovakia will receive €4.71 million in aid from the EU for this purpose. Slovak authorities oppose the proposal arguing these migrants will not stay in Slovakia as this country is not rich. Migration experts such as Zuzana Števulová from the non-governmental organisation Human Rights League told Anca Dragu that Slovaks seem stuck in a vicious circle in this respect.
