Three years ago, Slovakia experienced a very common situation in the market. The biggest bookstore chain went almost bankrupt because it grew too quickly. At that point the J&T sharks entered and helped it to survive. Recently, they have bought the Ikar distributor. Publishers started to fear possible monopolization of the market as there are very few European countries where the key three parts of the book business, i.e. publishing-distribution-bookselling are controlled by one company.
